IBPSA Australasia holds it’s first ‘special interest’ evening on CFD

IBPSA Australasia

On February 10th 2015, IBPSA Australasia held its first special interest evening, which aims to get more people in the building performance simulation industry talking to one another and discussing hot topics. This session was focussed around computational fluid dynamics, or CFD, in the built environment and hosted three guest speakers; Nicki Parker (IBPSA Australasia Vice President) from AECOM, Jason Gaekwad, formerly of Aurecon, and Andrew Ooi from the University of Melbourne. The presentations varied from performance in data centres, to computational wind engineering, and complex physics in double skin facades.

Over 20 attendees participated in the event in Melbourne, with several people signing up for IBPSA membership. There was some great feedback and a big appetite for these events in the future. IBPSA Australasia’s next event will be held in Sydney in July, and focus on energy modelling. It is the aim of the committee to engage with members on a more regular basis, running local networking and learning events. Hopefully this will raise the standard and profile of building simulation in the Australian construction industry.
